MORE ABOUT THIS PIECE

September’22

September was a busy month. It’s one of those months in India where all the festivals line up and you start getting homesick. The familiar nostalgia of the smell of incense sticks and flowers, my family chanting their prayers or just shopping for decorations for the house always hit me like a truck this time of year. And while festivals often mean spending a surprising amount of time on FaceTime now-a-days, it brings for me new traditions. Like making sweets that I enjoyed as a kid or running around the city to find a nice bouquet of marigolds. New can often feel scary or bad, But sometimes, new is just different. And this year, this portrait was just a reminder of how my life is and continues to be all that I was and all that I am, in exactly the ways I choose it to be.
