MORE ABOUT THIS PIECE
October’22
October was a very special month for me in terms of learning more about myself. I am traditionally someone who is always on the go. I like to keep busy and be doing things that feel meaningful to me. However, the month of October was the beginning of my application process for graduate school. And while I did all that I could to be prepared for the moment, what I think I failed to prepare myself was for the wait. I often caught myself mentally fast forwarding to March when I would know how the season went for me and when I would have more clarity about this process that I had put so much of myself into mentally and emotionally. However, the month really encouraged me to self reflect and just pause And on somedays, I would find myself smiling, enjoying life in the voids and the in-betweens. As cliché as it sounds, it was a good reminder to truly focus on my journey and not my destination. To have fun in all the little moments that lie between the high-highs and the low-lows. And so to mimic this idea, I created this piece to see how I could use negative space. The challenge was to use only two colors that represented two sides of the same color on a spectrum and then using the blankness of the screen to flesh out a portrait.
